Short answer: yes, you can use Claude in Hong Kong, just not by signing up with Anthropic directly. Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China are not on Anthropic's supported countries list, and Anthropic says any region not listed is unsupported. That covers claude.ai, the Claude apps, Claude Code and the Anthropic API. What you can do is use Claude through a service that operates in Hong Kong and accepts local cards. This guide explains what is blocked, what your options are, and how to get started in a few minutes.
What exactly is blocked in Hong Kong
- claude.ai sign-up. Registering needs a phone number from a supported region, so a +852 or +853 number will not work.
- Claude Pro and Max. Anthropic's paid plans are sold only in supported regions, so there is no way to subscribe from Hong Kong.
- The Claude app. The official Claude app is listed in the US App Store but not in the Hong Kong one.
- The Anthropic API and Claude Code. The developer platform follows the same list, so you cannot open an API account with a Hong Kong address and card.
Some people get around this with a VPN and a foreign phone number. We do not recommend it. Using Claude from an unsupported region is against Anthropic's terms, accounts can be suspended without warning, and you can lose your chat history and whatever you paid for the month.
Your options in Hong Kong
1. An AI subscription that includes Claude
Several services that operate in Hong Kong include Claude models in their plans. You pay them by card, and they give you Claude in a web chat, an app or through an API key. When you compare them, check three things:
- Which Claude models are included. Look for the current Opus, Sonnet and Haiku, not only older or smaller versions.
- How usage is counted. Most services use credits or points, and long conversations use more of them. You should be able to see what each message used.
- Whether you get an API key. If you want Claude Code, Cursor or another coding tool, you need an API key that works with the Anthropic format.
2. Essevin
Essevin is a monthly subscription that includes Claude (Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5), GPT and image models in one plan, paid by card. Plans start at US$3.59 a month for 250,000 credits, roughly 141 Claude Opus 5.5 messages of standard length. Every request shows in the console with the model, the credits it used and what is left this month. See plans and prices and credits per model.
You can also create an API key in the console, so the same credits work in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other tools. Our Claude Code setup guide for Hong Kong and China walks through it in four steps.
3. Poe
Poe is available in Hong Kong and lets you chat with Claude alongside other models. Since March 2026 its free allowance is 300 points a day. If you are weighing Poe against other services, our Poe alternative checklist covers what to compare, including where Poe is the better fit.
How to start using Claude in Hong Kong with Essevin
- Create an account with your email. No VPN or foreign phone number is needed.
- Choose a plan and pay by card. Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay are accepted.
- Open the chat and pick a Claude model, or create an API key for Claude Code.
